Emergency Tactics To Get Rid of and Hide Pimples the Day Before Your Big Date

Is that sudden pimple bumming you out the day before your big date?  Have you been waiting and washing for this date all week and still have embarrassing breakouts?  There are some cool emergency tactics to get rid of and hide those blatant blemishes before you step out with your favorite date so don’t let pimples kill your social life.

Of course we can get into prevention and treatment, but that doesn’t help you the day before that hot date so just remember these are temporary fixes for an ongoing condition that requires additional attention.  With that in mind, let’s first consider what you should not do about that sudden and surprising acne breakout before your date.

Stuff You Shouldn’t Do

First of all, stop stressing out about acne.  Stress can actually aggravate acne and cause breakouts because of increased hormones that throw off your equilibrium.  Relax before you treat those pimples – remember they’re just temporary.  Consider the words of Dr. Afzal Lodhi who states, “Yes, acne is a sign of puberty but actually it is treatable!”

Secondly, don’t pick pimples.  You can make them spread, cause infection and worst of all, the immediate results are quite unattractive.  Your skin may appear pocked, scabby and swollen for a day or two after picking pimples so it’s not a good idea if you want to look good right away.

Finally, don’t scrub your skin hard or use hot water.  This can aggravate the acne further and traumatize your skin so it appears red and irritated.

How About Acne Medications?

Unless you have tried the acne medication before, don’t rely on it to get rid of breakouts immediately.  Further, the acne medication may aggravate the condition before it improves it, which is not what you need before an important date.  So unless that benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid ointment is tried and true, you should pass on over the counter acne medications as a last minute resort for getting rid of pimples.

One over the counter cream that works quickly is Penaten, a multi-purpose zinc oxide ointment that is used for a variety of skin conditions, such as diaper rash, dermatitis, eczema, scalds and sunburns.  Dab a bit of zinc oxide ointment on the blemish before you go to bed and when you wake up the swelling will be significantly reduced.

Do Home Remedies Work?

Home remedies are frequently the best way to get rid of sudden breakouts so you can enjoy that long-awaited date.  Simply use everyday ingredients you find around your house to clear up unexpected eruptions and keep your social life alive.

Here are a few ideas:

• Use a dab of toothpaste on the blemish and keep it on overnight.  Make sure to use paste and not gel.
• Rub tea tree oil around the area of the blemish the day and night before your date to encourage the healing process.
• Rinse your face twice a day with warm salt water before your big night out.
• Apply egg whites to the affected area and let it dry for 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
• Dip a cotton ball in vinegar and apply to the acne-ridden areas.
• Dip a cotton ball in lemon juice and apply it to the affected areas.
• Rub your face with half a tomato and leave the reside on overnight – your pimples will greatly diminish.
• Check your medicine cabinet for calamine lotion and put some on your breakouts to dry them out quickly.
• Combine grated apple with some honey and apply it to your face for 20 minutes and then rinse off with warm water, then a cold rinse.
• Put strawberry leaves on the affected area for an hour.
• If your acne is inflamed, put ice on the swollen areas before bed and they will be reduced when you wake up the next day.
• Mash up a few fresh garlic cloves, apply them to your face and leave on for 15 minute, then wash off with a warm, wet cloth – remember to do this the night before your date so you aren’t smelly for your favorite person!
• Simmer a handful of fresh basil leaves in a couple of cups of water for about 15 minutes and put the water in the refrigerator to cool.  Once it is chilled, dab on your face with a cotton ball to dry up acne blemishes.
• Use a clove based facial mask and apply it overnight.  Wash it off the next morning to reveal clearer skin.
